Here’s a cool piece of Webster, NH history for you!
At the 1935 Webster town meeting, one of the items to be voted on was:
“20. To see if the town will vote to discontinue a certain part of the Cross Road so called, leading from Little Hill to Battle Street, described as follows: beginning at a stone post east of Hirtle’s Garage, thence easterly on said road to approximately five rods west of the covered bridge on said road.”
Does anyone know how the town voted on this? Anybody have information on “Hirtle’s Garage”??

According to the 1983 Webster history, Province Road was also referred to as Cross Road. The map in the front of the book shows a W. Hurtle (Hirtle?) owning the house at the intersection of Little Hill and Province Road. I don’t know how the town voted on it in 1935. Helbach bridge connecting the road over the Blackwater was destroyed the following year in the 1936 flood and never rebuilt.
